Within the Baw Baw and Latrobe regions there are varied opportunities for young people to access community based education programs.
Community Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) refers to the programs tailored to the needs of students disengaged from mainstream school settings. Students are generally enrolled at a home school, but don’t physically attend as the programs are delivered by a separate provider external to the school site.
Within Baw Baw and Latrobe there are three Community VCAL programs, supporting more than 45 young people to reengage with education.
In Latrobe, Berry Street manage a Community VCAL program, as well as a Young Mums VCAL for young and expectant mothers. Fusion, in conjunction with Kurnai College, commenced the second year of their Community VCAL program in 2010.
In Baw Baw, GippsTAFE provide education opportunities at their Youth Development Unit, including Foundation and Intermediate VCAL. ECG Community College, also based in Warragul offers an Intermediate VCAL certificate.
