YEA - Youth Education for All

YEA (Youth Education for All) is a Community VCAL program that:

-       increases the range of educational pathways for young people

-       increases work opportunities / career pathways for young people

-       improves the literacy, numeracy, personal development and work skills of young people

-       increases access to youth support agencies and workers

-       increases the community involvement and networks of young people

The YEA program is a community based approach toward the development of comprehensive pathways for all young people within the Baw Baw Shire.  The program is aimed at young people aged 15-17 years of age, disengaged from school or other educational facilities.  It supports young people to re-engage in education and training, expands the opportunities for young people and helps them to make and maintain links within the community with employers, support agencies and other community members.

Students in the YEA program attend classes at Education Centre Gippsland, Community House, GippsTAFE and Youth for Christ.  Each student works towards completing VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) taking units from Literacy / Numeracy, Personal Development, Industry Related Skills and Work Related Skills, as well as personal interest units such as Calligraphy, Art, Editorial, Small Engines or Airbrushing.

Each student in the YEA program receives:

-       a comprehensive, individualised assessment at the point of intake into the program, conducted for each young person and their family to identify the full range of his / her individual and family needs,

-       a MIPS Plan (Managed Individual Pathways), that ensures the units studied and industry / work placement experience suits the overall educational / career goals of the young person.
